What do you think? Was Rob Lowe’s tweet distasteful or just honest?
Daily Mail – Rob Lowe is facing a backlash over a tweet he sent out following the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday night.
Following the horrific attacks on the French capital, which are now said to have killed around 130 people, president François Hollande gave a speech declaring a national state of emergency and saying that the French borders were to be closed.
One of Lowe’s comments said: ‘This is either the worst translation of an important speech ever, or one of the worst ever given #Hollande’.
Many of his fans took to Twitter, dubbing it as ‘the worst tweet of all time’.
The former ‘West Wing’ actor reacted to the news with a post on his official Twitter page saying: ‘Oh, NOW France closes its borders.’
His offensive tweets came after he wrote a comment of support, ‘Vive La France’, the French equivalent of ‘God bless America’.
After being branded ‘heartless’ and ‘insensitive’ in the hours that followed, Rob later tried to defend his words, explaining that he used to live in France, so the news of the attacks had hit him particularly hard.
He wrote: ‘Lived in France, and spend a ton of time there. Been in that stadium. This is all so devastatingly sad for a place I love.’
One of Lowe’s followers shot back at him, telling him his career was on a consistent slide since The West Wing.
